Great question! The Sandbox membership not only includes a rigorous podcast curriculum including writing lessons, discussion prompts, classrooms slides and technical instruction but also gives access to a private podcast network to post student work for the other member students to listen, relate and emulate. The curriculum blocks help build inter-personal communication skills and self-confidence which are important life skills for students.
If your school already has access to recording equipment then students can begin creating recordings of their work on Day 1. The various curriculum segments are designed to be used in any order at the discretion of the teacher based on the experience of both teachers and students. For schools that do not have recording equipment, The DTM recording studio package will arrive within 10 days of joining the Sandbox, during which time teachers and students have a chance to do important prep work using the writing and discussion lessons.
Introductory annual SandBox memberships are just $795 per school (limit 25 schools). Memberships are for a 365-day license, from the initial date of purchase. That license extends to the entire school and may be customized to include multiple teachers and classrooms. Scholarships may be available based on need.
The curriculum is self-explanatory and will include slides and discussion talking points. The recording equipment will come with easy-to-understand instructions to enable a quick and simple setup. If there are any problems a quick email to [email protected] will get you on track quickly.
We are always looking to improve The Sandbox curriculum and the tech guidance. Contact us at [email protected] if you have a unique or specific need for your school. We'll be happy to help figure it out with you.
The Sandbox refers to a creative place to talk, learn social skills and have fun with friends - much like Henry and Rich did when they first met in their Kindergarten class sandbox on the first day of school many years ago.
The Sandbox Network is a private digital library of podcasts which is available for Sandbox members schools only. The site is only accessible to teachers and students who have active member log-in credentials. Students will be able to share with their families, not the general public. Active member log-in credentials will be updated yearly to keep access limited to SandBox members. Also, all podcast content can only be uploaded (i.e. shared) and removed by the teachers - who have administrative rights to their own student's content.
You will receive a membership update notice 45 days prior to the expiraton date. All memberships will auto-renew for the amount of the original license fee. If your school decides not to renew, it must be done in writing. Upon cancellation your school's audio files will be removed from The Sandbox Network within 60 days. If there is a payment lapse we'll be sure to reach out and check with you before removing any content. We know that delays happen, especially with regards to administrative school budgets and payments. So, we will work with all members to make sure renewal or departure goes as smoothly as possible.
Yay! We were hoping you'd ask this question. The answer is simple - we've logged the miles. Henry has been a Media Arts teacher for over 30 years. He has successfully used both radio and podcasting as an in-class form of confidence-building self-expression for well over one thousands students - and won Teacher of the Year as recently as 2022. During that same time, Rich was building his own successful career in Radio and Podcasting - winning many awards along the way, and sharing informative guest lectures with Henry's classes.
